WEDNESDAY. 

Morning.

     The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: 

     And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? 

     I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 

     And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much good laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink and be merry. 

     But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

     So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. 

Luke xii. 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21. 

Evening.

     And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.  

     And he said unto his disciple, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 

     The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 

     Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them.  How much more are ye better than the fowls?

July 15.

"Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb."

— Rev. vii. 10.

This high song of praise is even now swelling forth in the upper sanctuary, beyond that blue firmament which veils from our feeble eyes the great glory of heaven. They are singing it there as none upon earth can do, for only those who have reached their heavenly rest can tell how great is the salvation with which God has saved them. Many whom we have heard of, many, perhaps, whom we have known and loved are there; old and young, they have finished their course, whether longer or shorter, with joy, and they now know what great things God hath prepared for those that love Him. To Him and to the Lamb do they ascribe all the glory of their salvation; they make no distinction, for the love of God is the love of the Lamb of God; but we may well take note, that the name by which in heaven they praise God the Son, is in itself the recognition of His great work of redemption in dying for them. Even there, in His kingdom above, He is the Lamb that was slain, "the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world." When we have followed some loved one to the grave, how does it revive our mourning hearts to hear, as from above, this voice of praise coming to us across the great gulf of separation; to hear the dear Christian friend with whom we have taken sweet counsel, singing now to the golden harp the wonderful salvation which God has wrought, and praising in heaven, as formerly with feeble tongue on earth, Him who has finished all this great work of redemption; "the Lamb that was slain, and hath redeemed us to God by His blood."

July Fifteenth. 

"I will praise Thee, O Lord, my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Thy Name for evermore. For great is Thy mercy toward me: and Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell. But Thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give Thy strength unto Thy servant, and save the son of Thine handmaid." 

-- Ps. 86: 12-13; 15-16. 

     OUR Heavenly Father, we bow before Thee humbly, reverently, and thankfully, for Thou art great and holy and good. Forgive our sins for Jesus ' sake, and by Thy Holy Spirit take away our love of sinning that we may be willing and able to do Thy will. Make our home life strong in truth and righteousness, and beautiful with love, and courtesy, and cheerfulness. May these children, like Jesus, increase in wisdom and in favor with God and man. We thank Thee for the gift of life. May we all lay hold on eternal life, which also is Thy gift. Show us our work, and make us faithful. Make us unselfish, and so helpful to the weak, the tempted, the sorrowing, the discouraged, and the lost. Bless our country with righteousness. Bring men to the new brotherhood in Christ, and clothe Thy Church with power, that the Gospel may be preached , and Thy Kingdom hastened, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
