Meditations

TUESDAY.

Morning.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law.

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse:  for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Gal. ii. 16.  Gal. iii. 10, 11.

Evening.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is thethe knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference.

Rom. i. 16.

Rom. iii. 20, 21, 22.

Good Words for Every Day of the Year

Good Words Sunday Magazine, 1860

June 23.

"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing."

—Rev. v. 12.

This is the song that arises round about the throne of God from holy angels and glorified saints, "ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;" but he who heard it—the only mortal man who ever did hear the song of heaven while yet on earth—was at that very time a prisoner and an exile in Patmos "for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ." Men had cast him out for his Master's sake. The Name that was first in heaven was last on earth! Here the followers of the Lamb were persecuted to the death; there the "angels that excel in strength" were filling the heaven of heavens with His praises! Let us deem it our highest privilege, if we may in any manner echo that song, and cry with saints and angels, "Worthy is the Lamb;" let us strive to know more and more how worthy He is of our warmest and deepest adoration and praise; high as He is He has respect unto the lowly, and will not despise our feeble homage.

"Oh, may our hearts repeat the strain,

And, fired with holy love,

Return from earth a deep Amen

To those high songs above!"

God's Minute

June Twenty-third

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling , and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory."
-- Jude 1:24.

ALMIGHTY and merciful God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, under the shadow of Thy wings have we rested through the night sheltered from danger and harm. And as the new day opens and privileges and opportunities again arise to meet us, we pause, to thank Thee and pay Thee homage. And we beseech Thee, be with us also through the day and guard us from harm and especially from falling into sin. We have been baptized into Thy name and have thus been adopted into Thy world-wide family of children. We have been bought with a price the blood of our Redeemer. O keep us that we may not this day, nor ever, fall away from Thee and these covenant blessings, through sin. May no evil desire this day take possession of our heart, but may our every thought, word and deed be pleasing unto Thee. May Thy Holy Word continue to light our way and sustain us, and may its light fall upon those who sit in the darkness of unbelief, that Thy name may be hallowed also among them. Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done. Bless our home and all our dear ones. Bless our church, with missions, schools and charitable institutions. Be nigh especially to those who are sick, in distress, or in peril of death. Prosper all that is good among us and hinder every evil purpose and counsel. And at last, when life's journey is ended, may we inherit life eternal, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour.  Amen .
