Week Twenty-seven, Wednesday.

Morning.


The Lord is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: hear, I pray you, all people, and behold my sorrow:

I called for my lovers, but they deceived me; my priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, while they sought their meat to relieve their souls.

Behold, O Lord, for I am in distress; my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled.

They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me: all mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it:

My sighs are many, and my heart is faint.

Evening.


Is any among you afflicted? let him pray.

Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass:

And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noon-day.

For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but will bring down high looks.

For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried; he is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.

July 8.

"For I delivered unto you first of all, that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures."   

—1 Cor. xv. 3.

Our progress in the Christian life is to be estimated, not so much by the number of new ideas and truths that we acquire, as by the increasingly manifested power and presence in us of a foundation-truth like this, "Christ died for our sins." Were we like the Apostle, found "always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus," we might expect that assuredly the life of Jesus would be manifested more in us. In this great truth so many other truths lie wrapped up! It is by contemplating this wonderful death of Christ the Lord, that we learn the holiness of God, His hatred of sin, His marvellous love to man, the wisdom of His great plan of redemption, and the great eternal glory of Christ Himself, who became our Redeemer. And while we learn these things concerning God and His ways, what an awful lesson do we also learn of the exceeding evil of sin! Can anything so convince us of the guilt of man as the death of the Son of God for our sins? Therefore, well might the Apostle, in his teaching, deliver this great truth     "first of all."

"By that rich and precious blood,

That hath made our peace with God,

Jesus, to Thy feet we flee,

Jesus, we will cling to Thee!"

July Eighth.

"And this is the confidence that we have in Him , that , if we ask anything according to His will , He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him."

     OUR Father, it is with reverence we bow to Thee. We thank Thee for every blessing of life, for we realize that Thou art the Giver of every good and perfect gift. We pray that every member of this household may realize that God hath a purpose in every individual life; may it be the highest ambition of our lives to know what God would have us do. May the Holy Spirit ever abide with us and direct us in all the things Thou hast made it possible for us to do. May Thy love for us, as manifested in so many ways, constrain us to serve and honor Thee our Father. 

     Dear Lord, we commit ourselves with all we have and are, into Thy loving care , and would ask Thee to bless us, keep us, guide us, forgive our sins, and finally take us to Thyself with all the redeemed. We ask it in Jesus' Name and for His sake. Amen.
